DuoChromes
Polaroids as both fist and whisper. The DuoChromes series by De Vos is born from experimental analog Polaroid film and a unique two-color chemistry; the poetic outcome of a duochrome soul. These works are not merely captured; they are constructed. Through a process of cutting and reassembling, both digital and analogue, De Vos reconstructs portraits into stylized, charged collages that balance between immediacy and estrangement.
The series manifests in two distinct forms. The original Polaroids are presented by De Vos as raw, tactile objects, featuring short, sharp sentences in old-fashioned Dymo tape, preserved forever in cast resin. Alongside these unique pieces, the imagery is translated into limited edition multiples: enlarged 50x50 cm works that emphasize the graphic power of the compositions.
What initially appears as a colorful, pop-inspired aesthetic reveals itself as a mirror to our discomfort with the body, the gaze, and judgment. De Vos does not exhibit bodies; she exposes a norm in image form, seasoned with wit.
